MEASURING A WATCH STRAP
Would you like to entrust us with the making of a bespoke genuine leather watch strap, entirely handmade and hand-sewn in Belgium to equip your timepiece or that of a loved one? It is important to measure some dimensions.
The width of the lug: this dimension is measured at the level of the case of the watch (between the two « lugs ») where the strap strap comes to be fixed. The standard widths are most often: 18mm - 20mm - 22mm - 24mm.
The width of the loop: this dimension is measured inside the loop of your watch strap. The width of the buckle is usually 2mm or even 4mm narrower than the width of the lug and sometimes equal to the width of the lug for a straight watch strap.
The lengths of the two parts of your watch strap: the standard dimensions at Decoster are 115/75, 115mm for the long part and 75mm for the short part. Our atelier Decoster makes bespoke watch straps, so we can adapt these lengths to the dimensions of your choice: 105/65, 125/85, 120/70…

CHOICE OF LEATHER
Shell Cordovan – The Excellence of Equine Leather
Shell Cordovan is an exceptional leather, renowned for its rarity, durability, and incomparable patina. Sourced from the back of the horsehide, called the "shell" or "butt," this leather is distinguished by its dense, smooth texture and natural luster. Each horsehide yields only two pieces of Shell Cordovan, making it a precious and sought-after material.
The manufacturing process for Shell Cordovan is long and complex, requiring approximately six months of artisanal work. It begins with vegetable tanning in pits, using natural extracts such as mimosa and chestnut to preserve the leather's suppleness and strength. Next, the leather is nourished with natural oils, dried on glass frames, and then hand-polished to achieve its characteristic luster. Unlike other leathers, the flesh side is used, providing a smooth and shiny surface.
Shell Cordovan is particularly prized for its ability to develop a rich, deep patina over time, adding character and elegance to the items it crafts. Its exceptional durability makes it a preferred choice for luxury leather goods such as wallets and watch straps.
By incorporating Shell Cordovan into our creations, we offer our customers unique pieces that combine traditional craftsmanship with superior quality. This fine leather embodies our workshop's commitment to excellence and authenticity.

CHOICE OF LEATHER COLOR
Colors available or on request.

CHOICE OF LINEN THREAD
The MEISI Super Fine linen thread we use is a high-quality natural product. The twisting process increases the thread's strength and ensures an exceptional finish for the products in our workshop. All our stitching is done by hand with this superb thread.
To ensure an exceptional finish for the watch straps we make, we offer a wide selection of linen thread colors. Two thicknesses of linen thread are available: very fine (0.35 mm) or fine (0.45 mm).

CHOICE OF EDGE PAINT
The italian edge paint we are using is one of the best edge paints with great penetration and adhesion, durability and flexibility. It is applied by hand in several layers until a smooth edge is obtained.
In order to ensure an exceptional finish to the watch straps which we make entirely by hand, we manually apply our edge dye in several layers until a smooth edge is obtained.
